Mental Health Awareness Month

World Mental Health Day takes place on 10 October each year, and in 2024, the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH) is highlighting the theme: "It is Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace."

Team bonding used to revolve around pizza, beers and a night out singing karaoke, but the tides are turning.

A recent article featured in The Straits Times describes:

“Local researchers said in a medical journal in April 2023 that the estimated total economic cost of productivity lost due to anxiety and depression in Singapore was $15.7 billion a year.

Besides higher healthcare costs for the individual, employees affected by mental health issues are 40 per cent less productive at work.

Mr Kenneth Tan, AIA’s chief corporate solutions officer, says: “With full-time employees in Singapore averaging over 40 hours per week at work, employers hold a crucial responsibility in supporting their employees’ mental health.”

My life’s purpose and intention behind OASIS is to help corporate warriors manage their stress in non-medicative ways, and I am so glad to have had the chance to host close to 50 people at a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction seminar on the topics of Emotional Regulation and Navigating Negativity.
